This recipe is similar to many of my favorite recipes: you basically stuff all of the ingredients into a single pot, turn on the heat, and let the magic happen. One Pot Golden Milk Apple Sauce is my the twist on a simple homemade applesauce that I’ve been loving, lately.
Some of you may be asking, “What the heck is Golden Milk, Marybeth?”
Allow me to fill you in on this phytonutrient-dense flavor bomb.
Golden Milk, otherwise known as haldi ka doodh, in Ayurvedic tradition, is a mixture of spices centered around the spice that makes it golden: Turmeric. If we take a closer look at Turmeric, we find something called Curcumin, which gives it the distinct golden color we’re accustomed to and is responsible for some pretty stout anti-inflammatory properties.
Why mix it together with a bunch of other spices?
Taste and absorption, that’s why.
You can follow this link to check out my favorite go-to recipe for making a big batch of golden milk, but just know that unless the golden milk you decide on contains black pepper, you’re being ripped off. Yes, this includes coffee shops that sell “golden milk” products without doing the research to find out why it’s a thing.
Long story short, a main component of black pepper, piperine, increases the bioavailability of curcumin by a whopping 2,000% .
I’d say that’s worth the extra effort, wouldn’t you?
Golden Milk can be used as an ingredient in tasty lattes (bonus points if you add a little fat and increase absorption even more), smoothies, baked goods, desserts (like the Golden Milk cheesecake below. Don’t worry, the recipe is coming SOON), and for my One Pot Golden Milk Applesauce.
